Nagoya: The Thai men's volleyball team is confident of their chances of qualifying for the 2026 Asian Games. Sergeant Major Boonyarit Wongthorn, captain of the Thai men's national volleyball team, aims for a good result by focusing on one game at a time and believes they have a chance to advance to the next round.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai men's volleyball team held their final training session before departing for Nagoya at the gymnasium of Kyushu Women's University and Junior College in Japan. The full training session, coached by South Korean Park Ki-won, lasted two and a half hours. The session begins with stretching, warming up the ball, and reviewing blocking skills. This is followed by practicing defensive systems and counter-attacks for scoring, before concluding with serving.
"Fluke" Sergeant Major Bunyarit Wongthorn, the team captain, spoke about the training session, saying it was a full-system training session. His physical condition is recovering, and although he still has some lingering pain, he's trying not to worry about it. Regarding the goal, everyone has high expectations, and they will focus on the first round. If they can win against every team, they will have a good chance of making it into the top four. Finally, he asked Thai people to cheer on the men's team at this Asian Games.
Today, the men's volleyball team will move from Kitakushu to Nagoya for a training camp of approximately 10 days before entering the Asian Games competition system on September 24th. The 20th Asian Games men's volleyball competition will be held from September 27 to October 3, 2026. The Thai national team is in Group B along with Iran, Indonesia, and Kyrgyzstan.
