Nonthaburi:The Department of Health Service Support conducted a raid on a nursing home in Nonthaburi following allegations of patients being chained.
According to Thai News Agency, the raid was led by Dr. Sirisak Thitidilokrat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, and Mr. Supachai Singho, Director of the Health Service Support Center Region 4, along with other relevant officials and police officers. The inspection took place at a well-known nursing home in the Mueang Nonthaburi District, where the media was prohibited from photographing inside the facility.
The investigation was prompted by a potential breach of the Medical Facilities Act, as the facility's original permit application accounted for only 9 beds, yet officials discovered a total of 81 beds. Authorities are now tasked with verifying the license, service conditions, and bed proportions, as well as examining the buildings within the network to determine the facts before proceeding with any legal action.
As reporters waited outside the nursing home, they witnessed two or three patients inside shouting and waving for help. These patients claimed they were being assaulted and confined, alleging that handcuffs and chains used for restraint were concealed near the stairs.
