Thai Government Maintains Vigilance on Thai-Cambodian Border Amidst Mine Clearance Operations

Bangkok: The situation along the Thai-Cambodian border remains stable across seven provinces as the Thai military continues to uphold its presence along 11 strongholds, reinforced by barbed wire fences to safeguard Thailand's sovereignty. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, Government Spokesperson and member of the Thai-Cambodian Border Situation Administration (TCASAB), announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is set to lead a delegation of diplomats from embassies of Ottawa Convention member countries to Ubon Ratchathani and Sisaket provinces. The delegation will visit Pha Mor I Daeng in Sisaket Province to be briefed and observe the efforts of Humanitarian Mine Action Unit 2 in the Phu Makhuea area, where mine clearance operations are underway. They will also inspect civilian impact areas at Ban Nong Mek, Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, and Phum Sorol Witthaya School in Sisaket Province for further briefings. Mr. Chirayu emphasized the Thai government's dedication to international law and humanitarian principles, expressing readiness to present facts to the global community in pursuit of a peaceful and just resolution. The government has reiterated its commitment to defending Thai sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its citizens. The Thai military's strategic deployment aims to prevent any territorial infringements, with immediate responses planned for any violations. The ongoing operations have also involved bomb disposal units, which continue to detect and address mines illegally placed within Thai territory. These mines, attributed to Cambodian forces, represent a breach of the ceasefire agreement and the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of personal explosives, marking a significant violation of international protocols.
