Bangkok: The government has expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the repatriation of the bodies of Thai nationals who died in Israel, and is working to ensure that the families of the deceased receive their entitled rights and benefits.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra was informed about the return of the last Thai hostage's body to Thailand on June 11, 2025. She instructed relevant agencies to prioritize the benefits for the families and thanked the parties involved for their assistance in bringing the bodies back to their homeland, specifically to Phrae Province.
Mr. Karam reported that the Ministry of Labor has dispatched officials to Phrae Province to assist the families in understanding and accessing their benefits. They will help with the necessary procedures and documentation to expedite the benefits. The compensation package includes:
1. The Israel Insurance Institute has already provided initial compensation for hostages. Upon confirmation of death, the compensation will switch to a death benefit. The heir will receive funeral and burial expenses, widowhood benefits, and other compensations based on the institute's assessment.
2. The Department of Employment's fund for job seekers working abroad will provide a lump sum and funeral expenses abroad, pending verification of documents.
3. The Social Security Fund entitles the deceased's family to a retirement benefit.
4. The Ministry of Labor and the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv are monitoring outstanding wages and compensation for layoffs.
Mr. Karam emphasized that the government, through the Ministry of Labor, is committed to ensuring that the families of deceased workers receive their rightful benefits promptly. He urged Thai workers going abroad to do so legally and to report their travel to immigration checkpoints for better government support and to prevent future incidents.
