Bangkok: "Suchart" confirms he will continue to pursue the return of "Plai Pratu Pha" and "Plai Srinarong" from Sri Lanka. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin revealed progress in negotiations to repatriate the Thai elephants "Plai Pratu Pha" and "Plai Srinarong" from Sri Lanka. He stated that the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation is currently in discussions with the Department of South Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to prepare for agreements and protocols, including coordination with the Sri Lankan government.
According to Thai News Agency, Suchart stated that he would seek an opportunity to meet with the Sri Lankan government leader in the near future to discuss matters in person. He emphasized that Thais who are concerned about the two elephants should avoid criticizing either side's care and should speak with understanding and empathy in order to ensure a smooth negotiation.
Mr. Suchart added that the Prime Minister has given his full support and reassured the public that the government is not complacent. He added that everything is proceeding cautiously and in a positive direction. He believes that these discussions with Sri Lanka will be another important step in bringing Thai elephants back to their homeland.
