Bangkok: The Cycling Association of Thailand is actively pursuing a spot in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles by preparing its national cyclists for strategic competitions. The team, including athletes Arthit Poolard, Pittayaporn Saet-tan, and Judah Thompson, is set to participate in the UCI Road World Championships 2026 in Montreal, Canada, from September 25-27. According to Thai News Agency, this championship is a significant opportunity for Thai cyclists to accumulate essential points toward their Olympic qualification. These points are crucial as they contribute to both individual and national rankings, enhancing the team's chances of securing a quota for the upcoming Olympics. The Thai cyclists competing in the event include Athit Poolard in the men's senior category, Pittayaporn Sae-Tan in the women's senior category, and Judah Thompson in the men's under 23 category. Following the World Championships, they will head to Nagoya, Japan, to compete in the 20th Asian Games. The Asian Games will featu re road cycling events with four gold medals available from September 20-23. Arthit Poolard is a prominent contender for Thailand, particularly in the men's time trial and road race events. The association is aiming for a top-three finish, providing a strong chance for medal victories. General Ink highlighted the association's objective to secure at least as many Olympic Games quotas for 2028 as they did previously, with Thailand having already secured four places across road cycling, track cycling, and BMX.
