Thai Athletes with Disabilities Shine at International Tournaments, Clinch 20 Medals

Bangkok: The Thai national team of athletes for the disabled has achieved significant success, bringing home a total of 20 medals from two prominent international tournaments. The athletes showcased their skills at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Egypt and the Asian Table Tennis Championships in China. According to Thai News Agency, the Thai Para weightlifting team emerged victorious with a total of four gold medals in Egypt. Veteran powerlifters in the Legend division, aged 45 and over, were instrumental in this success. Thongsa Marasri, competing in the under 80 kg category, secured two gold medals for Best Lift (187 kg) and Total Lift (544 kg). Meanwhile, Phongsakorn Chumchai, in the under 65 kg category, also bagged two gold medals for Best Lift (162 kg) and Total Lift (476 kg), setting a new Asian Record in the process. Besides the medalists, other Thai Para athletes demonstrated strong performances in the Elite category. Although they did not secure medals, their efforts were commendable . Notably, Kamonphan Krachapetch, also known as "Bam", achieved a 9th place finish in Best Lift and 10th place in Total Lift in the under 55 kg category. The Thai table tennis team added to the medal tally with an impressive 16 medals at the Asian Championships in China. They secured a gold medal in the men's doubles, class MD14, with the pair of Rungroj Thainiyom and Phisit Wangphonpattanasiri. The team also claimed six silver medals and nine bronze medals, further highlighting their prowess in the sport.
