Bangkok:The Thai Airways board convened a special meeting today to address ongoing issues with baggage and flight delays at Suvarnabhumi Airport, along with considering the potential dismissal of CEO Chai Eiamsiri amid criticism of alleged mismanagement.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting was held at 1000 AM at Suvarnabhumi Airport in response to significant disruptions in passenger services attributed to a labor shortage at Thai Airways. These disruptions have led to delays in baggage handling and flight schedules. The board aims to monitor the current situation and devise strategies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The meeting takes place in the context of mounting criticism regarding Thai Airways' management failures. The Ministry of Transport and the government have previously commented on the company's inability to promptly address issues and coordinate with external agencies, highlighting CEO Chai Eiamsiri's role in these shortcomings.
The possibility of Mr. Chai Eiamsiri being dismissed as CEO is a focal point of the board meeting. His contract is currently set to run until January 31, 2027, making any dismissal a premature termination. Meanwhile, the search for a new CEO has concluded its application phase as of September 27, with the review of candidate documents now underway.
