Thai Airways Appoints New Acting CEO Amid Investigation

Bangkok:The Thai Airways board has announced the appointment of Samrit Samniang as the acting CEO, following the removal of Chai Eiamsiri from the position.

According to Thai News Agency, the decision was made during a board meeting led by Laworn Saengsanit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Thai Airways. The meeting was also aimed at appointing a committee to investigate Chai Eiamsiri on two distinct charges.

Effective from October 2, 2026, Chai Eiamsiri was relieved from his duties as CEO. Samrit Samniang, a former executive of PTT, has stepped in as the acting CEO. Chai Eiamsiri's term was originally set to end in January 2027. His previous roles included Chairman of Thai Smile Airways Co., Ltd., as well as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Accountant at Thai Airways.

Thai Airways had been in the process of accepting applications for a new CEO, with the application window closing on September 30th.

After the board meeting, Chai Eiamsiri addressed the press before leaving, and Thai Airways staff applauded him as he departed.
