Chonburi: Seventeen people, including 13 students, were injured after a swarm of wild bees attacked passersby near the Bang Lamung District Office in Chonburi province.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred near a large rain tree housing a food and beverage center. Emergency responders reported that four adults and 13 students sustained injuries, with several suffering severe allergic reactions and swelling.
Among the injured was 71-year-old food vendor Orn-anong, who was stung nearly 100 times and suffered severe symptoms. A police officer who attempted to assist victims was also stung and injured.
Rescue workers administered first aid at the scene before transferring the injured to a local hospital for medical treatment.
An initial investigation revealed a large wild beehive, measuring approximately one meter by one meter, located at the top of the rain tree. Authorities used an aerial bucket truck to burn and remove the hive to prevent further attacks.
Local residents noted that a similar incident had occurred previously at the site, though it was far less severe than the latest attack.
