Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport is moving forward with comprehensive preparations for all aspects of service to accommodate travel during the Songkran festival. This includes integrating cooperation with all sectors to improve service efficiency, reduce congestion, and build confidence in passenger travel.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Kittipong Kittikhachorn, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), revealed that during the Songkran festival in 2026, BKK anticipates a total of approximately 1,820,000 passengers traveling through the airport between April 10 and 19, 2026 (10 days), or an average of approximately 182,000 passengers per day. This represents a 1.9 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
For this period, it is estimated that there will be approximately 11,000 flights, averaging 1,100 flights per day, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the same period last year. Nine airlines have requested additional extra and charter flights, totaling 130 flights. The top three airlines requesting the most extra flights are Air Macau, Bangkok Airways, and Thai Vietjet Air.
Furthermore, Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) has promoted and encouraged passengers to utilize technology and innovation to reduce waiting times, increase service efficiency, and enhance the travel experience to be more convenient, faster, and more efficient. Examples include the Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) check-in system, the Common Use Bag Drop (CUBD) self-check-in system, and biometric passenger identification technology, which help reduce document verification, lessen congestion, and increase speed at each service point.
For travel to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport, sufficient public transportation systems have been prepared, including public taxis, limousines, public buses, and the Airport Rail Link. During peak periods, public transportation providers will be coordinated to increase the number of vehicles to meet demand. Furthermore, relevant agencies will be involved in rigorously inspecting the readiness of drivers and the condition of vehicles, including alcohol and drug testing, to ensure the highest level of safety for passengers.
