According to Thai News Agency, yesterday, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, presided over the closing ceremony of the Bangkok Metropolitan Provincial Championship Competition for the fiscal year 2026, under the theme "United Hearts to Cheer on Thai Athletes at the 2026 Asian Games". Mr. Surasak thanked the Bangkok Metropolitan Sports Association for organizing the competition. He stated that, in addition to providing a platform for developing athletes' potential, it played a crucial role in raising awareness, fostering pride, and boosting morale among the public, which will be passed on to the Thai national team preparing for the 2026 Asian Games.
'Sports are a vital force that fosters unity, pride, and inspiration among all Thais. The Asian Games are one of the biggest sporting events in Asia and a platform for all athletes to showcase their potential, determination, and abilities on behalf of Thailand. I would like to invite all Thais to follow and support our athletes,' said Mr. Surasak.
Mr. Surasak emphasized that the Ministry prioritizes the continuous development of Thai sports, encompassing policy, enhancing athlete potential, supporting sports associations, and allocating resources through government mechanisms and the National Sports Development Fund. This ensures that Thai athletes are well-prepared and perform at their best for international competitions.
On this occasion, Mr. Surasak also congratulated the Volleyball Association of Thailand and the Thai women's national volleyball team for their significant achievement in defeating China 3-2 to win the AVC Women's Continental Championship 2026 and securing their place in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games for the first time in the history of the Thai women's volleyball team.
