Supamas Mediates Successful Resolution for Online Sofa Purchase Dispute

Bangkok: "Supamas" successfully assisted a customer who received a sofa online that did not match the description, leading to the seller agreeing to provide a replacement and compensate for the damages.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, and supervisor of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), played a crucial role in resolving a case where a consumer purchased a sofa online that did not match their order. The OCPB conducted thorough investigations and mediated the situation until the business agreed to deliver a replacement sofa and offer compensation. Ms. Supamas emphasized that consumers facing similar issues with online purchases can file complaints with the OCPB, even if the seller operates without a physical store.

Ms. Supamas highlighted Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's concern for consumer rights amidst the rise of online commerce. He instructed the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) to expedite investigations and ensure businesses take responsibility, offering fair compensation to consumers who suffer losses. This particular incident involved a consumer ordering an electric sofa with specific features, but receiving a mismatched product. The consumer sought justice through the CPB, prompting action from the authorities.

Following the complaint, Mr. Ronnarong Poolpipat, Secretary-General of the Consumer Protection Board, directed officers to verify facts and negotiate directly with the company. The business agreed to deliver a new sofa by September 20, 2026, and compensate for damages. The Consumer Protection Board communicated this resolution to the complainant, who accepted the proposed solution.

Ms. Supamas stressed the importance of monitoring the delivery and compensation processes to ensure businesses fulfill agreements. She encouraged consumers to retain evidence of online purchases and assured them of the CPB's commitment to investigating and resolving disputes, even in the absence of a physical storefront. The CPB aims to ensure consumers receive genuine compensation and fair treatment in online transactions.

Consumers experiencing issues with online purchases can file complaints through the OCPB's hotline, application, or offices nationwide, retaining necessary evidence for investigation.
