Bangkok: Supajee Suthamphan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, has affirmed that she will keep a close watch on commodity prices following the Federal Reserve's recent interest rate hike. This comes in conjunction with plans for an economic stimulus package after the conclusion of the "Thai Helps Thai Plus Phase 2" program.
According to Thai News Agency, the government is preparing a continuous economic stimulus package after the end of the "Thailand Helps Thailand Plus" Phase 2 initiative. The Ministry of Commerce is tasked with monitoring commodity prices to ensure they remain stable despite the Federal Reserve's 0.25% interest rate increase, the first such hike in three years.
At a recent address at Government House, Supajee discussed the impact of the Fed's decision on domestic trade and goods. She outlined that while the Ministry of Commerce oversees commodity prices, questions regarding interest rates should be directed to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanprapha.
Supajee also acknowledged the ongoing discussions about additional economic stimulus measures following the extension of the "Thai Helps Thai" program for another two months. The proposed measures will be unveiled as a package from the Ministry of Economy and Society, aiming to support economic figures in the final quarter of the year.
Ekniti has emphasized the need for comprehensive economic stimulus measures that cover all ministries, highlighting the importance of extending the "Thai Help Thai Plus" program to ensure a holistic economic recovery.
