Sakon nakhon: Villagers are expressing frustration with the director of a sub-district health center who allegedly drank beer while attempting to draw blood from an 83-year-old woman, resulting in several unsuccessful attempts and bruising to her hand. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Sakon Nakhon governor.
According to Thai News Agency, a viral Facebook post showed the health center director, identified as a 51-year-old man, sitting next to the elderly patient with a syringe and a can of beer. The incident occurred at the home of Mrs. Prapai, who suffers from chronic illnesses. The director’s intoxicated state led to multiple failed attempts to draw blood, causing the patient’s hand to swell and bruise. When questioned by her relatives, he reportedly became angry and mentioned his usual charge of 1,000 baht per hour for such services, suggesting that she visit a hospital if dissatisfied.
Local reporters who visited Phu Wong Mai Phatthana village in the Warichaphum district spoke with Mrs. Prapai’s niece, Ms. Suchitra, who witnessed the incident. She recounted that the director had arrived for a follow-up appointment to check blood pressure and draw blood. However, his intoxication and aggressive response to questions from the family raised concerns.
Ms. Jum, a pseudonym for a local resident, shared that the director had been stationed in the area for 4-5 years and had a history of alcohol addiction. Despite a period of abstinence, he reportedly relapsed, leading to frustration among villagers due to his neglect of duties and irresponsible behavior. The residents of six villages have become increasingly fed up with his actions.
Efforts to transfer the director have stalled, as villagers are hesitant to take action against him despite their concerns. They hope that relevant authorities will intervene to ensure the well-being and peace of the community.
Governor Ranida Lueangthitisakul of Sakon Nakhon has been informed of the situation and is preparing to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
