State Railway of Thailand Takes Action to Address Illegal Housing and Beautify Railway Areas

Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is actively working to tackle the issue of illegal housing along the railway lines. The Governor of the SRT recently visited key railway sites and ordered improvements to the drainage systems and overall scenery to accommodate the public visiting nearby landmarks and facilities.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wirit Amrapal, the Governor of the SRT, conducted an inspection of Chitralada Railway Station and Yommarat Railway Stop on October 9, 2025. His visit focused on assessing the condition of areas surrounding the railway, emphasizing the need for immediate enhancements to drainage canals and the landscape. These improvements aim to honor His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great in anticipation of the opening of the “Chaloem Phrakiat Park in Honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.” This initiative also supports the influx of visitors to Ramathibodi Hospital.

The Governor has mandated renovations of structural components, such as walls, sculptures, and the restoration of marble floors at the Chitralada Royal Railway Station. The station, recognized as a historical site by the Fine Arts Department in 2023, requires maintenance to address weeds and drainage issues. The SRT’s Civil Engineering Division will coordinate with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Drainage and Sewerage Office to improve the drainage system’s efficiency.

Additionally, the SRT plans to enhance the Yommarat Railway Terminus by improving landscaping and infrastructure to ensure passenger comfort. Concrete will be poured in waiting areas, and the ground will be leveled to promote safety and convenience. In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the SRT aims to address illegal housing issues in railway-adjacent communities to improve orderliness in the area.
