Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) announced that on December 31, 98,407 train passengers traveled across various routes as part of the New Year's travel period.
According to Thai News Agency, the SRT detailed the breakdown of passengers, with 51,395 regular outbound passengers and 1,513 additional passengers on extra trains, totaling 52,908 outbound passengers. The inbound traffic included 44,273 regular passengers and 1,226 additional passengers on extra trains, making up 45,499 inbound travelers.
The Southern route accounted for the highest number of passengers, with 32,702 individuals, followed by the Northeastern route with 23,360 passengers. The Northern route saw 17,565 passengers, the Eastern route had 12,249, the Mahachai route recorded 10,274, and the Maeklong route had 2,257 passengers. Overall, the actual passenger numbers were approximately 6,767, or 6.43 percent, lower than projected.
As of January 1, 2026, Bangkok Central Station remains active with a steady influx of passengers, although not overcrowded due to advance ticket bookings. Hua Lamphong Station and other regional stations also report a smooth flow of travelers, with adequate train capacity and no passengers left stranded. Ticket sales continue seamlessly, as reported by Mr. Methaphat Sunthornwaraphas, Director of the Public Relations Center of SRT.
Mr. Methaphat further noted that additional special trains have been arranged for the anticipated evening influx of passengers, including one on the Northern line, two on the Northeastern line, and one on the Southern line. Extra carriages have been added to regular trains to accommodate more passengers. It is forecasted that approximately 92,627 passengers will travel today nationwide, both arriving and departing.
Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys using SRT's public relations channels and access real-time train schedules and locations via the provided online portal. The Customer Service Center is available 24 hours a day for further inquiries.
