Srisuwan Summoned for Testimony Over People’s Party’s Membership Recruitment Issue

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has summoned Srisuwan to give testimony next week regarding the People's Power Party's (PPP) membership recruitment process, which required members to fill out Laser IDs and allegedly used Spectre C to assist in media production and political activities.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Srisuwan Janya, leader of the Patriotic Organization, revealed that he received a "confidential" letter from the Election Commission (EC) requesting him to provide testimony to the Registrar of Political Parties regarding the People's Party's online membership application process. Applicants are required to provide their Laser ID, a code located on the back of their national ID card, and there are allegations of information operations (IO) being conducted by Spectre C. This may constitute manipulation of the party's activities and violate the Political Parties Act of 2017. The testimony is due next week, following the information provided to the EC by the Patriotic Organization on February 17th and March 13th. This stems from the People's Party's admission of a data leak involving confidential information from its members due to an unsecured and insecure membership application system. The IO operation, allegedly driven by Spectre C, is believed to be a result of former Bangk ok MP Thitsana Chunhawan of the People's Party revealing that Spectre C Co., Ltd., located in the same building as the Future Forward Party, heavily assisted in their media activities and political movements, stirring up controversy and responding to comments on social media.

Mr. Srisuwan further stated that the actions in both cases are at risk of violating the Personal Data Protection Act 2019 (PDPA), the Criminal Code for those who use/instruct others to do so under Section 84, and violating the 2017 Constitution, Section 32 in conjunction with Section 25. This is considered a threat to members' data which may be a threat to public order or morality. It may also be in violation of Section 45 in conjunction with Section 92 (3) of the Political Parties Act 2017, which could lead to the Constitutional Court ordering the dissolution of the political party that violates it.
