Srinakarin Dam to Increase Water Release in Anticipation of Heavy Rainfall

Kanchanaburi:The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is set to gradually increase water release from the Srinakarin Dam over the next week, aiming to lower reservoir levels before the anticipated heavy rains. The water release will rise from 4 million cubic meters per day to a maximum of 8 million cubic meters daily.

According to Thai News Agency, this decision is driven by the need to manage high water inflows into the reservoir and to ensure sufficient capacity for future rainfall events. The release strategy will be implemented from October 5-11, 2026, starting with 4 million cubic meters per day, increasing to 6 million cubic meters on October 6, and reaching 8 million cubic meters from October 7-11. The released water will flow through the Tha Thung Na Dam into the Khwae Yai River, eventually joining the Mae Klong River system.

Currently, water levels in the Mae Klong basin are on the decline, with the Royal Irrigation Department reducing water discharge from the Mae Klong Dam. As of 9:00 AM today, the discharge rate was 969 cubic meters per second, aligning with EGAT's gradual increase in water release from the Srinakarin Dam. Monitoring at the Ban Nong Bua station in Lat Ya Subdistrict indicates that water levels in the Khwae Yai River are within control limits, with a monitoring level of 26.50 meters above mean sea level (MSL) and a control threshold of 27.00 meters above MSL. Should there be a need to exceed the planned discharge levels, EGAT will coordinate with the Royal Irrigation Department to adjust the rates appropriately.
