Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram has expressed concerns over the feasibility of conducting elections if migration continues along the Thai-Cambodian border. As a Member of Parliament for Buriram Province representing the Bhumjaithai Party, Sophon emphasized the challenges posed by the ongoing situation, which demands simultaneous elections across all constituencies.
According to Thai News Agency, Sophon highlighted that the law requires elections to be conducted simultaneously in all 400 parliamentary constituencies. However, he pointed out that the persistent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia could disrupt this process. He emphasized that the responsibility to address these challenges lies with the Election Commission, particularly if instability persists and people continue to migrate from border areas.
Sophon further commented on the Bhumjaithai Party's campaign efforts in the border regions, assuring that there were no issues as they were focused on supporting the local populace. He noted that the election date remains uncertain and will be determined by the Election Commission.
