Sophon Saram Calls for Unity Among Thai MPs to Expedite Legislative Process


Bangkok: Sophon Saram, Speaker of the House of Representatives, opened a seminar for the Thai Parliament, urging members of parliament (MPs) to collaborate in unity to expedite the legislative process and effectively compete with the executive branch. He emphasized the importance of overcoming conflicts and shifting the focus of spokespersons toward positive news.



According to Thai News Agency, the seminar aimed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of newly elected MPs in the 27th Parliament. Mr. Sophon delivered a lecture titled “Stories of the Thai Parliament,” where he expressed his desire for the legislative institution to gain the trust and reliance of the people. He highlighted the challenge of building a reliable and trusted parliament, stressing that success depends on the unity and cooperation of all members.



Mr. Sophon emphasized the importance of MPs fulfilling their campaign promises and working together to drive the country through its current crisis. Having witnessed numerous changes during his 25 years in parliament, he acknowledged the criticisms faced by the legislative body and the need to build tangible and intangible trust among the public.



The Speaker urged all 500 MPs to address public criticisms and demonstrate their commitment to their duties. He highlighted the role of parliament in enabling the executive branch to confront global crises and emphasized the need for collaboration beyond party lines to pass laws effectively. Mr. Sophon also stressed the importance of unity among the Speaker and the Deputy Speakers as an example for others to follow.



He called for a review of parliamentary regulations to ensure practicality and adherence, urging political parties to cooperate in building a society of love and adaptation. Mr. Sophon advocated for the continuation of existing motions, adapting them to reflect changing circumstances, and focusing on publicizing positive achievements of the parliament.



Mr. Sophon concluded by emphasizing the need for the parliament to cultivate the spirit of democracy among the country’s youth, demonstrating that the legislative body is not just a law-making entity but an example of democratic values. He underscored the importance of utilizing the parliament’s resources effectively for the benefit of the people and creating impactful, heart-driven works.
