Sihasak to Address Global Scam Threat at Human Rights Council in Geneva

Geneva: Foreign Minister Sihasak is set to address the Human Rights Council (HRC), highlighting the global threat posed by scams and the need for international cooperation to combat this issue. Attention is focused on whether the Cambodian leader will comment on any allegations against Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that during the 61st High-Level Meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Thailand will emphasize the increasing severity of human rights violations attributed to scams. These scams have been drawing individuals into illicit activities across regions, impacting not only Asia but also the Americas and Africa. Mr. Sihasak is expected to push for this issue to be recognized as a global agenda item, calling for genuine international cooperation to address the problem.

Reporters note that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Ma Net is scheduled to make his statement at 11:30 AM local time, while Prime Minister Sihasak will speak at 4:20 PM local time in Geneva, which is six hours behind Thailand. Observers are keen to hear their comments on the border situation and any potential retaliatory actions.

Additionally, it was reported that Mr. Sihasak is also scheduled to attend a reception hosted by Zambia later in the evening. As chairman of the 23rd Conference of Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Anti-Personnel Mine Use, or the Ottawa Convention, this reception provides an opportunity to strengthen international ties, affirm Thailand's commitment to the Ottawa Convention, and advocate for action against States Parties that violate the agreement.
