Bangkok: Minister Sihasak held discussions with the Vietnamese Foreign Minister to further upgrade strategic partnership relations and briefed him on the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed concern about the impact of the fighting on the population and regional security and pledged support in resolving the situation towards peace.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, revealed after a meeting with Mr. Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, that it was an opportunity to welcome the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs on an official visit to Thailand. Today's discussions covered many issues concerning Thai-Vietnamese relations, as they recently announced a comprehensive strategic partnership between Thailand and Vietnam. They also developed an action plan to guide relations over the next three years, particularly in the year marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, as well as a high-level visit by the Secretary-General of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Mr. Sihasak further stated that they also discussed the regional situation, including the current state of relations between Thailand and Cambodia. He shared Thailand's perspective, noting that the Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed a desire to see relations return to peace. Thailand is committed to achieving peace, but must first manage the current situation. Vietnam is ready to support any actions that will help resolve the situation, both as a neighboring country and as a fellow ASEAN member.
Mr. Le Hoai Trung said he would like to thank the Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs for the welcome. He expressed his pleasure at meeting with Thai officials regarding the strategic partnership as Thailand celebrates its 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He noted that they discussed how to move forward together in this strategic partnership and how to engage in discussions on international topics within the ASEAN forum. Mr. Le Hoai Trung also stated that he expressed concern over the tense situation along the Thai-Cambodian border, where Vietnam is a neighbor of both countries. The fighting and tension have caused suffering to the people of both nations and have a negative impact on peace and security in the region.
