ABC, citing a police post, reported that the situation was ongoing and those in the vicinity were advised to seek shelter until authorities had more information. Meanwhile, the New South Wales Ambulance Service reported treating several people at the scene and transporting four others to nearby hospitals.
ABC reporters saw ambulances, medical teams, helicopters, and special operations units at the scene. The situation looked chaotic and frightening, with people fleeing and others injured. One eyewitness recounted having dinner at a restaurant when they suddenly heard a loud noise. At first, they thought it was fireworks, but it wasn't. Then people started running in panic, while some froze, unable to move. The sound seemed to come from the Bondi Pavilion, a cultural centre building on Bondi Beach. The head of Australia's Jewish community told Sky News Australia that the shooting occurred while the Jewish community was about to celebrate Hanukkah (the Festival of Lights) at Bondi Beach at sunset today.
