Severe Storm Causes Extensive Damage in Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya:A severe storm with heavy rain and strong winds has caused significant damage in Ayutthaya, particularly affecting an old wooden house where half of the roof was blown off. The storm also led to a large tree falling on a car, resulting in further destruction. Local authorities are working swiftly to assess the damage caused by the storm.

According to Thai News Agency, the most severely affected location is house number 6/1, Moo 2, Bang Pa Daeng Subdistrict, in the Bang Pa In District. The house, an old wooden structure, lost approximately half of its back roof due to the strong winds, while the tiled portion of the roof also suffered partial damage. The region around the house still shows signs of water and mud following the recent recession of the Chao Phraya River floodwaters.

Ms. Nattikarn Waithip, the homeowner, described the terrifying experience, noting that the strong winds arrived with a loud roar during the heavy rain, eventually tearing off about half of her house's roof. Debris from the roof was blown onto a neighboring residence. Mrs. Somsri Waithip, a 79-year-old neighbor, recounted her experience of quickly securing her home and reciting a traditional incantation to calm the storm, which she claims helped reduce the wind's intensity, sparing her house from severe damage.

In Village 5, Bang Pa Daeng Subdistrict, additional homes suffered from the storm's onslaught, with roofs made of corrugated iron and tiles being blown away. At Wat Chi Prachao, a tree fell on a parked pickup truck belonging to a tugboat driver, necessitating the use of a crane and chainsaws to safely remove the tree.

Ms. Charaschom Waising, the mayor of the Bang Pa Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, reported that around five houses sustained damage. The damage qualifies for consideration under government-provided home insurance. The organization has already reached out to the insurance company to initiate site inspections and damage assessments as the next steps in addressing the aftermath of the storm.
