Bangkok: The State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) is hopeful for the approval of a loan during the Asian Investment Fair (AIF) committee meeting, which is expected to be finalized in the second quarter. The loan is intended to aid infrastructure development in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phithaya Uthaisang, who serves as the Director of the State Enterprise Policy and Planning Division at SEPO, represented Thailand at the 28th meeting of the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Committee on January 21, 2026. During the meeting, he exchanged views on several key issues, including corporate governance, financial status, the progress of AIF's lending activities, and the project pipeline.
The Climate Adaptive Strengthening of Lower Eastern Chao Phraya River Water System Project, spearheaded by Thailand's Royal Irrigation Department, has already gained approval from the AIF Board for inclusion in the Project Pipeline as of December 2025. This marks the first Thai government project to utilize AIF financing, with the final approval anticipated in the second quarter of 2026. Additionally, Thailand has five other projects on the Indicative List of Projects for Possible AIF Financing, which are expected to be added to the AIF list soon.
At the meeting, the AIF Board also reviewed the progress of the AIF Action Plan 2025-2028. This plan emphasizes strengthening AIF's financial capacity, increasing competitiveness, and supporting sustainable infrastructure investment across ASEAN. AIF continues to serve as a crucial source of funding for infrastructure development in the region and provides a platform for policy exchange and operational direction among member countries. As an AIF shareholder, Thailand remains committed to fostering regional cooperation and sustainable infrastructure development.
