Senate Committee Summons Agencies to Clarify Oil and Military Exports

Bangkok: The Senate's Military Affairs Committee has extended invitations to both government and private sector representatives to provide clarity on the measures concerning the exportation of fuel and military equipment. This initiative comes as part of an effort to scrutinize and potentially enhance the existing export controls.

According to Thai News Agency, Senator General Sawat Thasana, who chairs the Senate Committee on Military and State Security, emphasized the importance of this meeting, which took place today (December 23rd). The gathering aimed to address the challenges and devise collective solutions related to the export of fuel and military equipment. Representatives from pivotal entities, including the Ministry of Energy, the Customs Department, the Maritime Security Command (MSC), and PTT Oil and Retail Public Company Limited, were summoned to share their insights and suggestions.

General Sawat detailed the committee's requirement for specific information. This includes the Ministry of Energy's oversight to ensure compliance with legal stipulations concerning oil exports and the issuance of export licenses by the Department of Energy Business. Additionally, the committee sought details from PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited regarding its petroleum retail operations, particularly focusing on exports to neighboring countries Cambodia and Laos.

The Customs Department's role in supervising border procedures to ensure lawful oil exports and safeguarding national revenue was also highlighted. Particular attention was given to the volume of oil exports passing through various border checkpoints with Cambodia and Laos. Furthermore, the committee called upon the Maritime Security Command Center to elaborate on its duties and responsibilities as delineated by the National Security Council.

In closing, General Sawat expressed the committee's condolences to the soldiers who have given their lives in service to the nation. He invoked the blessings of the Guardian Deities of Siam, wishing protection and strength for soldiers, civil servants, volunteers, and the general public in their endeavors to overcome adversities.
