Bangkok: The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has taken steps to clarify its approach to law enforcement in cases involving scammers and money laundering, with an emphasis on investor protection and transparency in financial markets.
According to Thai News Agency, the SEC is placing significant focus on preventing and enforcing laws to safeguard investors, aiming to ensure transparency within both capital and digital asset markets. This is part of a broader effort to prevent financial fraud, cybercrime, and money laundering, employing both preventive and suppressive measures to address these issues.
Mr. Anek Yoo-yin, the Deputy Secretary-General and Spokesperson of the SEC, highlighted the organization's commitment to pursuing cases where law enforcement can act promptly, without impeding ongoing legal proceedings. This collaborative effort with the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) and other law enforcement bodies has led to the seizure and freezing of assets in several cases. Immediate action can be taken once any money trail linked to offenses under money laundering laws is identified.
The SEC has also addressed the complexity of violations concerning securities laws related to reporting securities holdings and business takeovers. Identifying the true holders and understanding the timeframe for offenses involves multiple layers of evidence. The SEC cautions that rushing to prosecute a few individuals could adversely affect proceedings against others involved. The public's lack of visibility into these processes does not indicate inaction, as thorough investigations are ongoing to ensure accountability for all involved. For cases where evidence is comprehensive, the SEC has expedited the enforcement of the law.
The SEC of Thailand reaffirms its commitment to working diligently with law enforcement agencies, accelerating the follow-up process and coordinating with foreign regulatory agencies via international cooperation channels. The overarching goal remains to enforce the law to its fullest, based on available evidence, without bias regarding past positions. Legal actions will be pursued fully for any detected wrongdoing.
