Bangkok: Satharam Thammabussadee, a lecturer at the College of Interdisciplinary Studies at Thammasat University and a member of the Social Security Board representing insured individuals, has declared his unwavering commitment to advocacy even in the face of a potential lawsuit from the Bhumjaithai Party. Thammabussadee, who has been vocal about alleged corruption within the Social Security system linked to the Bhumjaithai Party, insists he will not be silenced.
According to Thai News Agency, the controversy stems from Mr. Supachai Jaisamut, a candidate for Member of Parliament on the party-list and chairman of the legal working group of the Bhumjaithai Party, who is reportedly preparing legal action against Thammabussadee. The accusations made by Thammabussadee suggest that corruption within the Social Security system originates from within the political party.
Recently, Thammabussadee took to Facebook to express his resolve, stating, "I am being threatened with a lawsuit. I knew this day would come when we stand up for the interests of the majority and oppose injustice." He emphasized that while he and others in similar positions may feel fear, they are driven by their duty as representatives of insured individuals.
Thammabussadee elaborated on the struggles faced by ordinary citizens, highlighting the challenges of dealing with illness, unemployment, and financial burdens. He stressed the importance of speaking out against corruption that affects the lives of daily wage earners, factory workers, healthcare professionals, and young professionals with aspirations.
Despite the threat of legal action, Thammabussadee remains steadfast in his mission to advocate for fair treatment of the insured, emphasizing that the fight for rightful benefits and pensions continues. He concluded his message with a call for solidarity, stating that even if silenced, others would rise to carry on the fight for social justice and transparency.
