Bangkok: Sansiri pioneers an initiative in partnership with four green-focused companies to transform 50,000 plastic bottle caps into eco-friendly playgrounds. The first three projects in the Ratchaphruek-New Road area have already been handed over.
According to Thai News Agency, Sansiri, a leading real estate developer in Thailand, is reinforcing its roadmap to Net Zero 2050 with tangible results, announcing a significant achievement in its 'Waste to WORTH' campaign. This campaign transforms discarded waste into spaces of smiles by repurposing used plastic bottle caps collected from residents into the first 'eco-friendly playground' in the Thai real estate industry. The playground seamlessly integrates design, fun, safety, and practicality.
The success of this pilot project stems from the combined efforts of a comprehensive Green Ecosystem network, from upstream to downstream, through the collaboration of four expert partners: Plus Property, which engaged residents and employees through systematic plastic waste drop-off points in pilot communities like T77 Community and The Society Phuket; WasteBuy Delivery, which managed logistics, transportation, and transparent tracking of recycled waste; GC YOUTurn, a platform for managing used plastics, which transformed HDPE bottle caps into PCR Rotomolding Compound, ideal for seamless rotational molding and enhancing product strength; and Punpun Playground, in collaboration with Sansiri's design team, which molded the plastic into playground equipment, resulting in a strong, safe, eco-friendly playground that meets standards.
Throughout the Waste to WORTH campaign, significant positive environmental impact was achieved by collecting over 50,000 used plastic bottle caps, weighing 206 kilograms. This resulted in a reduction of over 61 kilograms of plastic waste and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions of 117 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kgCO2e). These collected caps were then returned to residents through the installation and use of these systems in three pilot projects: Siri Place Ratchaphruek-Tat Mai, Anasiri Ratchaphruek-Tat Mai, and Mable Ratchaphruek-Tat Mai.
Sansiri and its partners believe that the Waste to WORTH mission sets a new standard and demonstrates that a circular economy is achievable and can create tangible benefits for society. This involves changing residents' behavior by separating small amounts of waste, and then recycling it into spaces of imagination and new value for children. This also marks a significant milestone in driving the Thai real estate industry towards a truly sustainable future.
