Royal Thai Police Ensures Peaceful Protests Amid International Conference

Bangkok:The Royal Thai Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining order during demonstrations, ensuring they do not disrupt the ongoing international conference. Police efforts focus on upholding peace and safety during the protests, with a strong emphasis on respecting the right to freedom of assembly within legal boundaries.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Major General Siriwat Deepo, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, stated that police forces were deployed in response to protesters gathering at Rama IV Intersection in Bangkok. The aim was to maintain peace and security, ensuring the protests did not interfere with the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings or the general public. Maj. Gen. Siriwat emphasized that officers acted lawfully, refrained from using violence, and respected protesters' rights. He also noted that no charges have been filed against the protesters by the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command.

Participants in the protest are required to comply with the Public Assembly Act, which prohibits causing inconvenience to the public, carrying weapons, or damaging property. The Royal Thai Police stressed that public gatherings should not obstruct officials or interfere with international conference measures. Limitations are also placed on marching or moving between 600 PM and 600 AM without authorization.

The police have advised that demonstrations occur in designated areas to facilitate peaceful management and ensure that rights and freedoms are respected. Clear procedures are in place within the legal framework for managing public assemblies.
