Kanchanaburi: The Royal Thai Army recently invited media representatives to observe the implementation of the Seal Stop Safe measures at the Ban Pu Nam Ron border checkpoint. The inspection aimed to provide insights into the operations at the customs checkpoint and the permanent border crossing at Phu Nam Ron, as well as to introduce the "Good Soldier" project led by the 9th Infantry Division.
According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Thitcharat Sombatsiri, Deputy Secretary-General of the Royal Thai Army and Army Spokesperson, led a group of military media to witness the collaborative efforts of border soldiers and local government agencies in Kanchanaburi Province. The visit included an assessment of operations at the Phu Nam Ron Customs Checkpoint and participation in a meeting focused on implementing government policies to counteract drug smuggling, illegal activities, forest fires, and environmental issues like smog and dust. Lieutenant General Amorn Boonsuya, Commander of the 1st Army Area, along with heads of various government agencies, attended the meeting, showcasing an integrated approach involving the Surasee Task Force, the 17th Army Circle, and other relevant bodies.
The economic data for the Thai-Myanmar border trade at Ban Phu Nam Ron checkpoint highlights the area's robust potential. In the fiscal year 2025, the import value reached 3.08 million baht, while exports soared to 31.78 million baht. This economic activity underscores the border area's role in facilitating international trade and contributing to sustainable local income.
However, the economic growth at the border is not without its challenges, particularly concerning the security risks associated with smuggling and illegal immigration. The cooperation between security and local government agencies is crucial to ensuring that border trade continues efficiently and securely. The delegation also visited the Phu Nam Ron Pass, a permanent border crossing, to support and monitor the efforts of officials stationed there, specifically the 1404th Ranger Company, Lat Ya Task Force.
The visit also included a tour of the 'Good Soldiers' project by the 9th Infantry Division, a royal initiative project of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. This project encourages soldiers and the public to engage in organic farming and supports the production and storage of seeds for disaster relief. The 9th Infantry Division has established a learning center for agriculture and animal husbandry, including a royal plant seed production center, a poultry breeding center, and a freshwater fish breeding center.
A notable aspect of the Good Soldier Project is the training provided to conscripts in organic farming. These soldiers then return to their communities to apply and share their knowledge, promoting self-reliance and sustainability. This initiative plays a vital role in community development and enhancing local food security.
