Rory McIlroy Supports Potential Return of Former LIV Golf Players to PGA and DP World Tour

Manila:Rory McIlroy, the Northern Irish golfer and six-time Major champion, has expressed his support for the return of former LIV Golf players to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. McIlroy believes that having these top professionals back would be beneficial for the business of the tours.

According to Thai News Agency, McIlroy emphasized the importance of considering the views of loyal tour members who stayed, highlighting the challenge of balancing business interests with member sentiment.

This development comes as two-time Major champion Jon Rahm has opted to leave LIV Golf. Rahm's lawyer informed the company during a bankruptcy hearing that his client was not interested in continuing with the "LIV Golf 2.0" project due to unacceptable new terms. Rahm is eligible to return to the DP World Tour in 2027 but may face a one-year ban from the PGA Tour under current regulations.

DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings has also stated that golfers must choose between the tours before the Ryder Cup year, marking the end of the era where players could participate in both simultaneously. Opting for LIV 2.0 would mean losing DP World Tour membership and Ryder Cup eligibility.
