Bangkok: The roof of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) Training Center in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province, collapsed as a result of strong winds. The incident, which incurred damages estimated at 15 million baht, is covered by insurance. The company responsible for the construction, Stecon, confirmed that efforts would be made to expedite the construction and ensure that the project is completed as per the contractual agreement. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pakpoom Srichamni, Group Chief Executive Officer and President of Stecon Group Public Company Limited, informed the Stock Exchange of Thailand about the incident. The project was being undertaken by a joint venture, ST-TC, which comprises a 70% stake held by Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited, a subsidiary of Stecon Group, and a 30% stake held by Transcode Company Limited. The project, valued at approximately 1,185 million baht, includes the construction of seven buildings for the MEA Training Center. T he steel roof structure of the aerial training area, one of the seven buildings, collapsed on February 9, 2026, at around 10:30 AM. The collapse is thought to have been caused by an unusually strong whirlwind in Bang Sao Thong Subdistrict, Bang Phli District. The site of the incident was a construction area belonging to the MEA, ensuring there was no impact on the general public or nearby communities. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The joint venture assured that the construction adhered strictly to design and engineering standards, with regular inspections conducted by site supervisors and client representatives. The damaged structure will be replaced, and the construction is expected to be completed as scheduled in the contract. A detailed investigation into the cause of the collapse is currently being conducted in collaboration with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and other relevant agencies.
