Rights activists accuse police of being hasty in indicting them with defamation

Three human rights activists who are facing charges of defamation and violation of computer crime law on Tuesday sought justice from the public prosecutor in Pattani, claiming that the police were hasty in wrapping up the case against them.

The charges were brought against the trio Somchai Homla-or, advisor and former president of Mixed Culture Foundation, Ms Pornpen Kongkachornkiat, director of Mixed Culture Foundation, and human rights activist Anchana Himmena by the police after they allegedly distributed a report on tortures and atrocities committed in three southernmost provinces during 2014-2015 which the Thai security claimed to be false.

The three human rights activists told the prosecutor that the police enquiry officers handling this case were hasty in wrapping up the case against them and dismissed their evidences.
