Bangkok: Akrawat, a reserve senator, has submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court, requesting a ruling on the potential constitutional violations of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) between the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and the Bhumjaithai Party (BJT).
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Akkrawat Pongthanachalitakul, along with fellow reserve senators and legal representatives, filed the petition on September 30, 2025. The request urges the court to examine whether the agreement, signed by Mr. Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, and Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, contravenes the Constitution and the Political Party Act. Mr. Akrawat has expressed concerns that the actions of the two political leaders undermine the democratic system with the King as Head of State, suggesting a quid pro quo in political favors.
Mr. Akrawat emphasized the potential impact of the court's decision, noting that the evidence presented could significantly affect the political landscape and the Anutin Charnvirakul government. The petition also connects to the ongoing Senate collusion case, with Mr. Akrawat cautioning Mr. Anutin's administration against interfering with evidence related to the Election Commission's case. Furthermore, he plans to leverage the court's authority to investigate any irregularities, raising questions about the necessity of the newly established 36th adjudication subcommittee by the Election Commission.
In addition, Mr. Akkrawat outlined the progress of a related case filed by senators against the Election Commission and its Secretary-General, Sawaeng Boonmee, at Thung Song Hong Police Station. The case will be forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) in compliance with the NACC Act. Next week, Mr. Akkrawat and the reserve senators intend to bring a lawsuit to the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct, armed with compelling evidence for the court's consideration. This action is distinct from previous lawsuits filed by Mr. Wichian Srisut's group and the Justice Council group, underscoring the independent rights of the reserve senators under specific legal provisions. The public is advised to await further developments regarding the specific issues to be filed.
