Ramkhamhaeng University to Resume Classes After Major Floods

Ramkhamhaeng:Ramkhamhaeng University is set to resume classes on October 5th after severe flooding caused extensive damage to the campus.

According to Thai News Agency, the flooding, which began on September 25th and lasted until October 1st, inflicted damage estimated at over 200 million baht, making it the worst flood event at the university in more than 40 years. The floodwaters, which reached nearly 2 meters in some areas, affected over half of the university's 65 buildings, including academic and student service areas.

Assistant Professor Wuttisak Lapcharoensap, Acting President of the university, and the executive team have been overseeing recovery efforts. The university avoided pumping water into surrounding areas to prevent further public inconvenience. The low terrain of the campus complicated drainage efforts, prolonging the flood duration.

As the water has receded to near-normal levels, university staff are focused on cleaning and assessing damage to infrastructure, particularly electrical systems, which require thorough inspections before being put back into use. This process is expected to take time, with some repairs potentially extending further.

Despite the damage, the university assures that the flooding will not disrupt the academic schedule. Final exams will occur as planned from October 14-28, 2026, with contingency plans in place to ensure they proceed smoothly.
