Bangkok: The Department of Highways has announced a temporary halt to construction work on Rama 2 Road to facilitate smoother travel for the public during the Songkran festival. This pause in construction aims to ease the flow of traffic, ensuring that travelers can move without hindrance during this busy holiday period.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bridge Construction Division of the Department of Highways confirmed the suspension of work and restoration of the main road surface on Rama 2 Road. This decision comes after a thorough safety and stability inspection of the construction site of Intercity Highway No. 82 (M82), specifically the Bang Khun Thian - Ban Phaeo Elevated Section (Sections 4 and 7). The inspection followed the completion of the lifting, installation, and securing of structural components in the area.
To further assist travelers and alleviate congestion, the Department has ensured that the road surface on the main lanes of Rama 2 Road is restored for both inbound and outbound traffic. This measure is intended to guarantee a smooth and safe journey for motorists, who may be returning to their hometowns or taking vacations during the festival.
Post-Songkran, the Department will temporarily close and divert traffic on some main lanes to continue the safe installation of the remaining elevated road structure components. The traffic diversion will occur at kilometer 26 and kilometer 30+500, starting from April 20, 2026. Work will be conducted during the day, from 05:00 to 20:00.
The Department of Highways targets completing the installation and road surface restoration before the school term begins in mid-May 2026, aiming to minimize disruption during peak hours. They advise the public to plan their journeys in advance and offer a hotline at 1586 for real-time traffic updates, available 24 hours a day.
