Raid on Pub in Ratchaprarop Area Uncovers Drug Use and Licensing Violations

Ratchaprarop: A joint force from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) and local police raided an entertainment venue in the Ratchaprarop area, which was found to be operating illegally past its closing time and involved in illegal drug activities. Several patrons, including foreign tourists, tested positive for drugs during the operation.

According to Thai News Agency, the raid occurred around 5:00 a.m. at a venue located in Soi Ratchaprarop 14, Ratchathewi District, following complaints about its extended operating hours and suspected drug use. Upon entering, authorities discovered a large group of foreign tourists consuming alcohol. The officers halted the music and conducted checks on passports and performed urine tests for drug use.

During the search, cocaine in ziplock bags was discovered on the floor, which was collected as evidence. Drug tests were administered to over 100 patrons and staff, resulting in 11 foreigners and 10 Thai nationals testing positive. Those individuals were detained and are now facing prosecution.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Suriya Singhakamol, Secretary-General of ONCB, stated that the investigation into the venue began after suspicions arose about a foreign suspect smuggling drugs to tourists. The venue had been operating for over a year and was allegedly involved in selling illegal substances, such as e-cigarettes, marijuana, and laughing gas, though the owner denied any connection to these activities.

Additionally, it was revealed that the venue was operating beyond the permitted hours. Authorities are set to verify the venue’s licensing compliance. Din Daeng Police Station will be involved in further investigation of the establishment’s owner to determine legal responsibilities and pursue action based on gathered evidence.
