The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has summoned property baron Anant Asavabhokhin to acknowledge money laundering conspiracy charge after gaining substantial evidence linking him to the 13 billion baht Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative scam.
My Anant is chairman at LH Financial Group PCL, chairman at Land & Houses Bank Public Co. Ltd., and chairman at Home Product Center Public.
According to DSI, Mr Anant was summoned for acknowledgement of the charge after substantial evidence gained indicating he might engage in money laundering conspiracy over a land purchase deal with the former president of Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative Mr Supachai Srisupa-aksorn.
The 46-rai plot of land worth several hundred million baht is adjacent to Wat Dhammakaya.
Supachai is now imprisoned pending trial for the 13 billion baht fraud.
DSI issued him a summons to acknowledge charge of money laundering conspiracy at the DSI headoffice.
The summons has been scrutinised by the Office of the Attorney General after it was proposed by the DSI for consideration.
Earlier the Anti Money Laundering Office's working committee on financial transactions has ruled that the eight plots of land sold to Anant's daughter Ms Alisa Asavabhokin by Mr Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, former president of the Klongchan savings cooperative, at 298 million baht was unusual.
AMLO ruled that the land deal was considered a money laundering to avoid tracking of Supachai's assets by authorities.
It said Ms Alisa holds ownership of the land on her father's behalf.
