Prime Minister Urges Swift Action on Flood Relief and Future Preparedness

Bangkok:The Prime Minister is prioritizing the acceleration of flood relief payments and preparations for potential high-risk flood areas in the South. During a meeting at the Ministry of Interior, he highlighted the need to avoid a recurrence of past unrest and addressed additional issues such as PM 2.5 dust pollution and drug-related challenges.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led the meeting to advance key missions of the Ministry of Interior. Attendees included Deputy Ministers of Interior Polpeerap Suwannachavi and Worasit Liengprasit, Permanent Secretary Arsit Sampanrat, and other senior officials, with governors participating via video conference.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of addressing pressing concerns like flood relief, drug trafficking, and economic hardships faced by citizens. He stressed the need for swift and transparent actions, with a focus on long-term improvements to prevent future issues. Regarding flood relief, he insisted on clear steps for database management, compensation verification, and ensuring funds reach affected citizens promptly.

Expressing gratitude for the flood response efforts in September, the Prime Minister noted that funds from the central budget were used to quickly provide compensation. He highlighted improvements in the survey process, allowing for faster identification of disaster-stricken areas. Future compensation will be facilitated through a government-provided accident insurance program, ensuring rapid support for home repairs and compensation for any fatalities.

He also called for immediate preparations in the southern region to handle potential future flooding, stressing the importance of proactive measures to prevent chaos and disruption. He urged provincial governors to be ready and implement necessary improvements without delay, learning from past experiences to achieve better outcomes.
