Prime Minister Suriya Outlines Strategic Initiatives on First Day at Ministry of Agriculture

Bangkok: Prime Minister Suriya, along with two deputy ministers, commenced their first day at the Ministry of Agriculture at 9:09 AM, marking the beginning of their tenure with a focus on advancing agricultural policies. He introduced five key policies, with a primary focus on market-driven production to boost farmers' income.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, was accompanied by Deputy Ministers Mr. Watcharapol Khaokham and Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat. They began the day with a ceremonial gesture of respect, placing garlands on the statue of Phra Phirun, the deity symbolizing rain and abundance, at the Ministry of Agriculture. The ceremony was observed at an auspicious time to symbolize a prosperous start.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Suriya conducted a meeting with senior officials, presenting five strategic policies aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector. These policies include leveraging technology and innovation to improve production, increasing farmers' income, developing farmers' potential, promoting market-driven production, and ensuring the systematic and sustainable management of water resources.

In addressing urgent international concerns, Mr. Suriya outlined plans to adjust the ratio of chemical to biological fertilizers to 70:30. He emphasized the importance of accelerating research on biological and organic fertilizers, promoting fertilizer use based on scientific analysis, and fast-tracking negotiations with Russia for chemical fertilizers. With a pressing need for approximately 2 million tons of chemical fertilizers before the planting season, Mr. Suriya announced plans to visit Russia during the Songkran holiday to advance these negotiations, underscoring the importance of prioritizing farmers' needs.

Additionally, Mr. Suriya addressed the issue of the coconut processing plant, indicating that a comprehensive review in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce will be undertaken. Regarding the hoarding of chemical fertilizers, while information is available, it remains undisclosed for the time being. Mr. Suriya reiterated his commitment to implementing the announced policies, with a meeting scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to specifically tackle the chemical fertilizer issue.
