Prime Minister Suriya Embarks on New Agriculture Initiatives with Focus on Technology and Sustainability

Bangkok: Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungruangkit, along with Deputy Ministers Watcharapol Khaokham and Piyarat Tiyapairat, commenced their duties at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives at the auspicious time of 9:09 AM. As part of their inaugural activities, they paid homage to the sacred objects of the ministry and unveiled five pivotal policies aimed at transforming the agricultural sector. These policies include leveraging technology to enhance production, boosting farmer incomes, developing farmer capabilities, adopting a market-led production approach, and ensuring sustainable water management.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister also addressed pressing concerns, particularly the volatile situation in the Middle East, which impacts agricultural supply chains. The administration plans to adjust the fertilizer usage ratio to favor bio-fertilizers at 70:30 over chemical alternatives. They are also fast-tracking research into alternative fertilizers to mitigate dependency on traditional chemical options. Additionally, a crucial diplomatic trip to Russia is scheduled during the Songkran holiday to secure over 2 million tons of chemical fertilizers in preparation for the upcoming planting season. The overarching message from the Prime Minister emphasized that the welfare and interests of farmers remain the government's top priority.
