Prime Minister Leads Efforts to Address Upcoming Rainfall in Thailand

Bangkok:The Prime Minister chaired a crucial meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (NDPMC) to prepare for anticipated rainfall from October 4-10. This preparation follows reports of a storm approaching from Vietnam, which is expected to affect Thailand, particularly its central region.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting included high-ranking officials such as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanprapas; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Supajee Suthamphan; and provincial governors, participating via teleconference. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of monitoring the flood situation and providing assistance to affected citizens, assuring them that government agencies are actively addressing their concerns.

The Prime Minister noted that the weather forecast predicts increased rainfall beginning October 4, with a significant weather system moving towards Thailand from the South China Sea. He expressed confidence in the Meteorological Department's forecast, which suggests that while the northeastern and northern regions will have clearer skies, moderate rainfall is expected in the central region. Meanwhile, efforts are being coordinated with the 4th Army Region and provincial governors to prepare for the situation in the southern region.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister addressed the recent absence of the Director-General of the Meteorological Department, who retired on September 30th, and was informed that the Deputy Director-General is currently serving as the acting Director-General. He stressed the importance of teamwork in managing weather communications and reducing pressure on the Meteorological Department.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the need for efficient drainage operations in Bangkok and surrounding areas, as well as the provision of essential supplies and food by relevant agencies and private organizations. After the meeting, he planned to visit affected areas to assess water management and drainage efforts.

Moreover, he urged provincial governors to disseminate information about disaster insurance programs to ensure public understanding. The NDPMC continues to hold daily meetings to stay updated on the situation and coordinate relief efforts effectively. The Prime Minister concluded by encouraging officials to focus on assisting citizens and to disregard negative remarks, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures against the expected rainfall.
