Bangkok: The Prime Minister has announced a suspension of all agreements with Cambodia after a Thai soldier was severely injured by a landmine. The soldier, who was on patrol near Huai Tamaria in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, lost his leg in the incident, prompting the Prime Minister to authorize the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to act according to Thailand's preferences, including halting the transfer of prisoners of war.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his awareness of the incident, highlighting that the situation involved two soldiers who were injured. He affirmed his support for the Ministry of Defense and the armed forces' actions and stated that ongoing efforts would be suspended until the situation is clarified. The Prime Minister emphasized that the ministries involved must proceed in alignment with Thailand's interests.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his disappointment that hostility and security threats towards Thailand have not diminished despite expectations. He stressed that no further actions would be taken unless the situation improved and reiterated that all activities must be paused. He called on the Minister of Defense and the Armed Forces to provide further details on the incident.
In response to reporters' inquiries about his potential visit to Sisaket Province, the Prime Minister confirmed his intention to go, citing the critical condition of the soldiers involved. When asked about the transfer of 18 prisoners of war, he firmly stated that the process should be "stopped."
