RAMALLAH, Nov 4 (NNN-Ma'an) -- The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued orders, on Saturday, for official to follow up with the case of several Palestinian refugee women held in Thai jails, along with their children.
An official at the Palestinian embassy in Malaysia reported that a number of Palestinian refugee women and their children, who are currently held in Thai jails for overstaying their visa, had appealed to Abbas to help end their suffering.
Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa News Agency reported that activists have been organizing campaigns to help Palestinians who arrived in Thailand from Syria escaping war and death as the Thai authorities have arrested many for overstaying their visas, reportedly keeping them in overcrowded and dismal detention centers with criminals, drug traffickers and sex offenders.
The Thair authorities reportedly treat the 600 refugees, of elderly and young families, as criminals rather than asylum seekers. -- NNN-MA'AN
