PPRP Votes to Expel 20 MPs from Thammanat’s Group Amid Leadership Absence

BANGKOK: The Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) has reached a decisive resolution to expel 20 MPs associated with Colonel Thammanat Prompao, following a meeting chaired by Secretary-General Paiboon Nititawan. The meeting proceeded without the presence of key figures, General Prawit Wongsuwan and Colonel Thammanat, while MP Pai Lik refuted any connection to the Phu Nap Dao farm case. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Paiboon Nititawan led the joint meeting of the party's executive committee and MPs, securing a 3/4 majority vote to expel the MPs linked to Colonel Thammanat. Mr. Paiboon assumed the role of chairman due to the illness of General Prawit, the party leader, who has been unwell for a few days. Details about General Prawit's health were not disclosed, but he is anticipated to recover shortly. MP Pai Lik of Kamphaeng Phet, speaking before the meeting, expressed uncertainty over Colonel Thammanat's attendance. He stated that discussions had been ongoing and reaffirmed that there was no connection to the Phu Nap Dao farm case. MP Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn, a close associate of Colonel Thammanat, also expressed uncertainty regarding Colonel Thammanat's participation, but anticipated no issues at the meeting. As the meeting commenced, members of Colonel Thammanat's group arrived, though Colonel Thammanat himself was absent. Mr. Paiboon outlined the meeting's agenda to the attendees, who reportedly appeared in good spirits. Post-meeting, Mr. Paiboon announced plans for a press conference to update the media. The list of MPs facing expulsion includes notable figures such as Colonel Thammanat Prompao from Phayao, Mr. Chatuporn Kamolphanthip from Ratchaburi, and Mr. Phai Lik from Kamphaeng Phet, among others. The party's decision marks a significant shift in its internal dynamics, potentially reshaping its political landscape.
