Police kill two alleged terrorists in West Java on Christmas Day

Counter-terrorism squad of the Indonesian National Police have shot dead two alleged terrorists in West Java on Sunday for allegedly planning terrorist attacks on Christmas and New Year festivities, The Jakarta Post Online reported on Monday.

Police identified the two suspected terrorists as Abu Sovi, aka Abu Azis from Bandung and Abu Faiz from West Bandung.

The Densus 88 anti-terrorism squad raided a floating house on Jatiluhur dam where four suspected terrorists, including Abu Sovi and Abu Faiz, were hiding. But Faiz and Sovi refused to surrender and tried to attack the policemen with machetes and were shot dead.

Earlier last week, the squad killed three suspected terrorists in a shootout on the outskirts of Jakarta and claimed the trio were planning suicide bombing during the end of the year.

So far, 14 attempts have been foiled as authorities made 150 arrests this year. 85,000 police and 15,000 military personnel have been deployed nationwide to secure the nation during the Christmas and New Year festivals.
