Bangkok: Police are urgently searching for two suspects who shot at each other on Khao San Road. The Bangkok Metropolitan Police Commissioner revealed that the court has issued arrest warrants for two suspects in a shooting incident on Khao San Road. He also instructed businesses in tourist areas to intensify weapons checks.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commander of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police, revealed the progress in the case of the brawl between groups of teenagers on Khao San Road. He stated that the court has issued arrest warrants for two suspects, who were carrying firearms, on charges of attempted murder. The incident stemmed from a personal conflict between the teenagers who had a prior dispute and arranged to meet on Khao San Road. When they couldn't reach an agreement, a shooting occurred. He has ordered police to expedite the arrest and prosecution of the suspects, as this is a heinous crime committed in a major tourist area of Bangkok. Regarding security measures and weapons searches, he added that these will be intensified.
Initially, police collaborated with business operators to search patrons to prevent tourists from carrying weapons into entertainment venues. However, as far as we know, the incident occurred near a hotel, a short distance from the entertainment venue, so weapons searches were not conducted there beforehand. Therefore, I have instructed police officers near tourist areas throughout Bangkok, not just those under the jurisdiction of Chanasongkhram Police Station, to increase security measures, set up checkpoints, and conduct weapons searches to deter tourists from bringing weapons, or individuals intending to commit crimes, into major tourist areas and cause such a violent incident.
Although police obtained arrest warrants from the court, there have been no reports of the two perpetrators contacting investigators at Chanasongkhram Police Station to surrender. Police are currently tracking them down to bring them to justice as soon as possible.
