Police chief nominee says he feels heavy responsibility

SEOUL: Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Cho Ji-ho said Wednesday that he feels a great sense of responsibility for being nominated as the new chief of the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA). Cho made the remarks before attending a meeting of the Korean National Police Commission, which has been convened to deliberate on the new KNPA chief nominee. President Yoon Suk Yeol will finally approve Cho's appointment as commissioner general of the KNPA after a recommendation by the interior minister and a parliamentary confirmation hearing. "It seems that the public's expectations for the police are greater than ever," he said. Born in 1968 in the southeastern county of Cheongsong, Cho graduated from Korean National Police University. He worked for Yoon's presidential transition team in early 2022 before being appointed as deputy commissioner general of the KNPA in December 2022 and as chief of the Seoul police agency in January this year.
